Last Wednesday, we received word from First Security Bank that an affordable loan package has been approved! In short, assuming an appraisal of $3.5 million or more, we should be able to move by the end of the year and host our first worship service in the newly renovated former Kmart sometime near the start of 2016.
At this significant moment in the life of our church, then, I want to thank each of you for your prayers, patience, and persistence with me through the many years we have waited for this moment - nine in total. I know it has not been easy; and we have lost some along the way. You, on the other hand, have stayed the course by exercising tremendous faith, courage, and sacrifice that will soon be rewarded. Indeed, it is you who will soon share in the joy and for the rest of your life have a story to tell of God's faithfulness. "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength," Isaiah 40:31.
That said, over the next six to eight months we will achieve our goal; that is, of securing a permanent home for the church in the heart of the University District in a way that declares the power of redemption, the very Gospel, itself, in an unmistakable way that leaves no doubt God has done this in His way, in His time, according to His will, and for His glory. "Without faith it is impossible to please God,"Hebrews 11:6.
Now, as part of the agreement, we will need to raise an additional $150,000 - $200,000 in cash as quickly as possible. That said, the Elders call upon all those who have pledged to give some $300,000 over the next couple of years to do everything reasonably possible to fulfill their pledges sooner than later. In addition, the Elders will soon be approaching the entire body with a plan and request to likewise participate in meeting this need.
Take a look at the baseball diamond on the wall. When first drawn, we envisioned that each base would represent two million dollars. After the initial purchase in 2012 (first base) came the 10 Fitness agreement, and now this loan. What this means is that in the coming months we will advance from first to third base by January 2016. At that time, the building - currently appraised at $1.5 million - will be worth $3.5 million or more. To God be the glory, great things He has done and will continue to do for, in, and through us - the people and passion of Mosaic - in the years ahead!
With this in mind, I trust you will be as excited as I will be in the coming months, as together we prepare to transition and to launch an entirely new season of life and ministry at Mosaic, from the corner of University and Asher/Colonel Glenn, in the heart of Little Rock's emerging University District, 72204.
