Revived faith :: Olga and Omar Cruz

In October 2003, two couches were donated to Mosaic. The couches were in such poor condition that when they arrived at the church, someone suggested throwing them away. However, Cesar stepped in to say that someone with nothing might be glad to own them.

A week later, Cesar received a phone call requesting that he visit a lady who had just arrived from Mexico; a woman with absolutely no connections, food, clothing or material goods. Heading to one of the trailer parks in southwest Little Rock, he met Olga, who had run away from a life of physical, emotional and mental abuse at the hands of her ex-husband. Upon entering the trailer where she was staying, Cesar noticed only one chair and a blanket. Before leaving, he shared the Lord with Olga, prayed for her and told her he would be back tomorrow.

On the next day, Cesar loaded the worn-out couches, a dining room set and a bed onto an old pick-up truck and took them to her trailer. When Olga saw the items, she began to weep.

The next day, Elisabeth (Cesar’s wife) came to visit Olga and to share with her the message of salvation. Olga wept like a child as she accepted the Jesus Christ as Savior. Two weeks later, Olga introduced Cesar and Elisabeth to her friend, Omar. Soon, he, too, received the Lord! Five months later, Olga and Omar were married during a Sunday morning service Mosaic!

In 2005, the couple returned to Mexico for a short stay. While there, Olga shared her faith and all that she had experienced at Mosaic with her family. Seeing the change in her life, her father believed; Olga had led him to the Lord!

Three years have passed and Olga and Omar are still a part of the Mosaic family. Olga’s faith remains strong. She is not afraid to share of the horrible life she once lived and how in coming to the United States, she not only found a new life physically, but more importantly, a new life spiritually in the Lord. “Before I accepted the Lord, my life was horrible,” she says. “I was a bad person with no hope and no future. Now, I have faith that the Lord is with me. He is changing me day by day and I have learned to trust in Him. He has restored that which was lost in me. I am so thankful for Mosaic!”

Of course, we, too, thank God for Olga and Omar, and, as well, for our brother Cesar, who understood the value of worn-out couches to the One who makes all things good and new.
